COS COB, CT

He Said: Yo Blogger Readers

Hopefully this is not the most exciting thing of your Memorial Day week-end.  For those who served thank-you.

It has been a busy 4 days for Pat and me. Got into Nerk, NJ Friday eve., about 50 rainy degrees. SW only lost 1 of our large boxes and currently has yet to deliver it.  I could have walked it here from Jersey by now. Both Friday and Sat. we spent putting away about 450-500 lbs. of stuff.  I could have called it something else that starts with s and has 4 letters. The last 2 days we kinda got a break from the stuff and have enjoyed ourselves a bunch.  Gr8 Italian food most every night along with our own little happy hour on the aft deck. Today clear, sunny and about 70. Tomorrow in the AM the marina owner here at Beacon Point is going to move the boat about 100 big yards to gas pumps so we can be prepared for our departure tomorrow with Capt. Doug.  Looking forward to heading North thru the Long Island Sound. Sounds crazy that I need help to get to the pump but if I had to start and move this boat from here I would be up shit creek, but I do have a paddle. People here at the Marina have been terrific, it is a great place to hang but it looks to me it takes a lot of $$ to live here in Connect. We will keep you posted on our 180 mile trip to Boston.  Take Care, Jack!

She Said:  It’s been quite a week.  We had lunches, dinners and happy hours with a lot of friends before departing Phoenix.  It’s sad leaving our friend, but exciting to get started on our adventure.

We had to make 3 trips to the storage unit on Thursday because all of our stuff just wouldn’t fit into our suitcases and carry-ons.  The handle broke on one of our roll-aboards and one carryon – that’s how much stuff we had.  We were the people you point at at the airport and wonder what they were thinking when they packed.  And of course, all of our bags had to be opened and inspected by TSA (who were very nice – really) and then repacked (not easy).  The good thing was that we didn’t have to connect planes anywhere.

We arrived in Newark to 52 degrees, rain, and 1 missing 50# box.  The boat was unlocked (good thing since we didn’t have a set of keys), the heat and water working.  Found a great Italian restaurant for dinner.  Thinks were looking up.  Unfortunately, a good night’s sleep eluded us – Jack worried about carbon monoxide poisoning and every move/noise made me think we were sinking.

Saturday morning was even colder and still raining.  The 230# we shipped, plus all the luggage we checked, had to be brought onto the boat.  Thank goodness for the marine staff who helped us wheel our stuff down a steep ramp and onto the boat.  We got everything unpacked and put away – the problem is we can’t remember where we put stuff.  We have a ton of storage space that we haven’t used – except for in the kitchen where things are filling up fast.  Hit the grocery store before we returned our rental car.  Now we’re walking everywhere – in the rain.  Picked up a pizza and ate in.  I was down for the count by 9pm.

We woke up to warmer (but still cool) weather and NO rain.  Still haven’t received our box – that’s a whole other story.  We had a relaxing day walking around town and getting to know the boat.  We had our first happy hour on our back patio (oops – aft deck) of Meant To Be and it was great.  When we were looking at boats we were cautioned about all of the steps on an aft-cabin.  Although there are no more than 5 steps in any one place, we’re really feeling the effect.  We have 2 TVs and 2 DVR players, and we can’t figure out how either work.  We’ll definitely have to get that fixed when we get to Boston.

Happy Memorial Day.  The weather is great – sunny and pleasant in the mid 70s.  We opened up all of the sides on the aft deck.  I reorganized some stuff inside the boat.  Jack’s cleaning the outside of the boat and talking to all of the neighbors – some things never change.  We made arrangements for someone to move the boat to the gas pumps so we can fill-up.  Sad to say, but we aren’t even capable of moving our boat that far.  That will change.

We hit the waters tomorrow.  Can hardly wait.  Stay tuned.

Bon Voyage Party

MEANT TO BE
HE SAID:  For those of you who asked for The Blog you got it. Introducing to you Meant To Be, this is actually the same exact boat as ours  but not really MTB. A few fun shots from last Saturday's too much fun and too much drunk going away party.  An XL thanks to the Parks' for all of the work. Also a big thanks to all 20 of the drunks who tried to play golf earlier on Sat. - maybe I shouldn't speak for everybody else. We will be on MTB this coming Friday in Cos Cob, Conn., then leaving with El Capitan for our 180 mile trip to Boston. We'll be traveling in the open water to Boston - hope the trip is fun and a learning experience for Pat and me. We will be with the Capt. 2 days then we will be spending most of the next 5 weeks in the Boston Harbor at Hingham Shipyard/Marina. This is where I hope to learn the navigating part of the boat.  My friend Tim Wild will join us from Seattle on June 4 and stay on the boat along with visiting his son who is a nurse in Boston. Tim has been a boating fool for about 25 years and has a ton of great knowledge to share with us.

In the picture of the boys, who in the hell is that in the left corner, any clues Mary??

SHE SAID:  We've been talking about it and planning it for months, and the time has finally come.  Here's our first blog entry.  We will do our best to keep you posted on where we're at and our trial and tribulations as we embark on living on a boat.  It will evolve as we do, so stay tuned.

The biggest boxes have been shipped and should be in CT when we arrive later this week.  We have more boxes that we will travel with us on Friday and they are 90% packed and ready to go.  Major learning:  If you're debating whether or no to take an the item - probably don't take it.  If it's bulky and inexpensive definitely don't take it - you can buy one at your destination.  If it's a hard-to-find, expensive or favorite item consider taking it.
